What's the difference between a Chiropractor and an Osteopath?
Chiropractors use their hands or an adjusting tool to perform specific manipulations on the joints in the body. The manipulation is the application of a specific small force to a joint, which restores normal motion, reduces muscle spasm and alleviates associated pain. Osteopaths focus on the body's skeleton and joint function along with the underlying muscles, soft tissue and internal organs. Using gentle stretching and mobilising techniques as well as manipulating joints, an osteopath works with the body to create the perfect conditions to facilitate the healing process.
Have you got car parking?
There are car-parking meters available on Park Place and St Pauls Street, there is also a multi-storey car park on Boar Lane, LS1 5DE. Visit our contact page to see an interactive map.
Do you have both male and female practitioners?
Yes, if you have a preference please note this at the time of booking.
About our treatments
What will happen during my first visit to Freedom Back Clinics?
On arrival you will meet with your Patient Advisor who will guide you through the Patient Admission Form and explain the clinic procedures and the various treatment options available.
Your Patient Advisor will then introduce you to your specialist practitioner.
Using the Patient Admission Form as a guide, you and your practitioner will discuss your health history in detail. This information, together with physical examination, will help your practitioner to arrive at a correct diagnosis for you and your condition.
Based on the findings your practitioner will decide whether any additional investigations are necessary before treatment can begin.
Following your consultation you will be presented with a Report of Findings, outlining your specific problem, treatment options and prognosis. Questions are always welcome.
Will I require an x-ray?
Not all patients are routinely x-rayed. If your practitioner feels it is appropriate then an x-ray will be taken as part of your initial consultation.
All Freedom Back Clinics are fitted with the latest equipment and our chiropractors are trained and qualified to take and to analyse x-rays.
Alternatively, if you have already had x-rays or other imaging recently, your practitioner may ask for your written consent to access that information.
How long will each session last?
Your first visit to Freedom Back Clinics will last about an hour and will include a consultation and, in some cases, an initial treatment.
The length of subsequent treatment sessions will depend on the type of treatment you are receiving but will generally last between 15 minutes and half an hour.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions you need will depend on the nature and severity of your condition, how you respond to treatment and the number of areas affected.
During your initial consultation your practitioner will draw up your personal treatment plan and this will be continually re-assessed throughout your treatment.
You may decide to opt for follow-up sessions once you complete your initial phase of treatment in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and reduce the likelihood of future problems.
Does it hurt?
The treatments don’t hurt, but if you’re in a lot of pain, it can be uncomfortable, just stay relaxed. The day after can be a little tender but that soon subsides.
Cost
How much will it cost?
Your treatment costs will depend on the severity of your condition and the number of treatments you require.
If you are booking a series of treatments we can offer payment options that will help to reduce the cost of treatment.
Your treatment plan and the cost will be explained to you before you commence treatment. It is entirely your choice how long you decide to benefit from our care.
